Hollyhock flowers are easy to grow from seed, and readily re-seed themselves. Their tall stalks of large lacey
flowers can bring to mind a grandmother's garden and a nice cup of tea waiting for you in her kitchen.
Grandmothers used to teach their children and grandchildren how to make hollyhock dolls.
To make a hollyhock doll, you need two flowers: one that's a tight bud, and another
in full bloom with ¼" of stem still attached.
Step 1: Turn the open flower upside down. This will form the skirt.
Step 2: Peel off the green covering of the bud to reveal the petals. The bud will become the head with a colorful hat.
Step 3: Push the small stem of the open flower into the base of your bud to finish your doll.
Children used to float their dolls in water to watch them dance.
