The quilt painted in this card was made for me by my mother, Loretta. She has always been a very talented seamstress. Over the years she has been hired by people to make various costumes and baton twirling outfits. She upholstered my brother's VW seats and head liner when he was in high school, and has recently upholstered her camper and is now helping my dad upholster boats.

Most of the clothes I wore as a child were handmade by my mom. I can remember going to the fabric store where she would let me pick out the fabrics and patters I liked best. It was so fun selecting the plaid fabric for a Christmas jumper she sewed one year, of which she made all the lines of the paid line up perfectly. She is especially talented at the details, lining up patterns, everything folding over perfectly. I can remember carefully choosing the satin ribbon that went with the fabric I chose for my sixth grade graduation dress, a darling robin's egg blue. She made me feel so special when she let me pick out fabrics and trimmings. When Levi shirts were popular, she made them for my brother and I with the exact snap style buttons and Levi label in the pocket that she had swiped from our old discarded jeans. Every year she made me a new dress for summer, Easter, the first day of school and picture day. I was known for some of my favorite dresses, which I wore to school several times a week if I was allowed! The last dress she made me was my wedding dress and matching brides maids dresses.

The quilt I painted on my greeting card is made from the remnant pieces of material she had saved from all the clothes she had made for me during my childhood years. She presented it to me as a surprise on my 40th birthday. It is an honor to have painted it "for you."
